Jewel tones do the work here: magenta, plum, orange and gold paisley teardrops build the elephant's body and ears against deep navy cotton, with tiny stars and dots scattered through. It is busier than it first looks, which is exactly what makes it satisfying — each small shape is finished before you move to the next, so you always feel you are getting somewhere.

Sammy drew this one first, before the whale, the coo or the puffin, and it has stayed a favourite in the Paraffle range ever since. Ten classic stitches are used across the design, all photographed in the stitch guide, and the pattern comes pre-printed so you can start the evening it arrives.

The finished elephant stays in its 8 inch hoop and is ready to hang straight away.
